East 17

East 17 emerged from Walthamstow in the early ’90s with a sound that stood apart from the era’s conventional boy bands, mixing pop with hip-hop, R&B and house influences. A run of defining singles followed, including House of Love, Deep, It’s Alright and Stay Another Day – the latter becoming a Christmas number one and one of the decade’s most enduring pop songs. With millions of records sold and a catalogue that remains instantly familiar more than three decades later, East 17 occupy a distinctive place in British pop history, bringing together club-influenced production, memorable melodies and some seriously big choruses.
